Dr. Vilas Jadhav, Associate Fellow at FAS presented a seminar titled “Dynamics of Horticultural Sector and Livelihood Security in Karnataka: An Econometric Analysis” on August 9, 2017, at the office of the Foundation.

The presentation, based on his doctoral work, aimed at looking at the horticulture sector broadly, with a focus on the performance of this sector, the price mechanism and the impact of this sector on the livelihood of the cultivating households.

The study uses both primary and secondary data sources pertaining to twenty villages from the districts of Bijapur and Kolar in Karnataka. Vilas concluded the presentation by suggesting some policy implications regarding the area under cultivation, the spread of information and technology, and improving crop yield for the stability in income of the farmer households engaged with the sector.
