On July 19, 2018, Dr Aparajita Bakshi, Associate Professor, National Law School of India University, Bangalore, conducted a workshop, titled “How to write a research paper.”

The workshop began with Dr Bakshi outlining the two processes involved in writing an academic paper: one, the process of organising the paper, and two, the technical aspect of academic writing.

She discussed in some detail the different stages of organising a research paper. This began with specifying the subject matter of the paper in the introduction, setting out the objective/s of the paper, and the motivation behind the study. The various ways in which a review of the literature can be incorporated were also discussed. Dr Bakshi next spoke about the methodology and organising the sub-sections dealing with the central argument of the paper. Moving on to the conclusion, she stressed that this section should further substantiate the argument/s made in the paper.

The second part of the workshop focused on adhering to the style sheets of different publications and the importance of citing secondary research in the paper in order to avoid charges of plagiarism.
