Vijaykumar, Data Analyst at FAS, presented some of the main findings from the second round visit to Alabujanahalli village in Maddur taluk, Mandya district, of Karnataka. This field survey was undertaken by a team at the Foundation in January 2018, as part of the project on “Women’s Work in Agriculture and Rural Production in India.” The first round visit to the village under the project was undertaken in September 2018. While the first round was meant to capture the sowing season, the second round coincided with the Ragi harvesting season in the village.
The surveys followed the time-use methodology using the tool of labour-diaries. A total of 22 women from the village, belonging to different socio-economic strata, were interviewed two times a day for one week continuously. The sample has been selected based on earlier PARI (Project for Agrarian Relations in India) survey of 2009.
While focusing mainly on the findings from the Second round visit, Vijay also made an attempt to draw a comparison with the findings from the first round.
