The Foundation has established the Pandemic Studies Unit that will focus on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on agricultural production, non-agricultural work in rural India, rural employment, including issues of women’s work, food security, and agriculture and rural development policy.

The inaugural seminar for the FAS-Pandemic Studies Unit was held on September 29, 2020 between 1700 to 1900 hrs India Standard Time.

The Pandemic Studies Unit was inaugurated by Jakob Littmann, Resident Representative, Rosa-Luxemburg Stiftung, South Asia. This was followed by brief presentations by Madhura Swaminathan, R. Ramakumar, and Deepak Johnson. A Panel discussion on Agriculture Policy in the Time of a Pandemic, chaired by Vijoo Krishnan and Aparajita Bakshi and Sudha Narayanan as panelists was held after the presentations.

Madhura Swaminathan is Professor and Head, Economic Analysis Unit, Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore Centre. She is one the Trustees of the Foundation. Webpage
